The Penny Date

We got out on the town for our anniversary. The girls were busy rounding up fun things to do with Nana and Pawpaw like eating pizza, watching Cinderella, and doing cannonballs on the air mattresses.

Brent heard about the penny date on a radio station earlier that week.  Hop in your car and choose a number between 1 and 20. You flip the penny. Heads you go right, tails you go left.  When you reach a crossroad, flip the penny again and turn the direction that your penny tells you. After your chosen number of flips, wherever you are that is where you have your date. Scary, right?

We did set a few parameters. We picked between two cities. The first flip decided which city. You really don't want to wind up in the cow pasture. We chose to flip the penny 11 times for 11 years of marriage.

The first flip landed on heads, so we went right. We drove about an hour before the next flip. We wound up downtown with some one way streets, that was unexpected in the pre-determined rules, but at the end of the road it was tails and we turned left. Sometimes you have to flip quick!

We took an exit and then turned right and then left. That was the last flip. What do we do now? We were still on a main road. We drove a few minutes more and entered SoHo. So. Much. Fun.

We found a parking spot. As we stepped onto the sidewalk, Brent heard live music and headed in that direction. You cannot go wrong with live music. The live music was coming from a pizza place.  The garage door style windows were open and the building was filled with people. It was loud and awesome. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling and kids were everywhere. They had outside seating with fun lighting and heat lamps. (We ate inside anyway). We could not say no.  We were seated right in front of the soloist. The food did not disappoint either.

Walking back to the car we stopped to watch some black belts spare, along with a crowd of other people. Apparently it's the thing to do on Friday night!

We knew where we were going next. We could see him from the restaurant. The Vulcan. It sounds cheesy, but neither of us had ever been to the Vulcan. It was a blast. Elevator go up. Elevator go down. The view was beautiful (windy and cold) and we had fun time taking pictures.

It was one of the best dates we have taken together. It was exactly what we didn't know we wanted to do. It was so us and perfect. It was something we never would have come up with on our own. Heaven's sake, I didn't even know SoHo existed!

We are definitely bringing the kids to see the Vulcan at night and take more pictures. Maybe I'll focus my camera a little better next time!

We look a little creepy here, but thanks to the nice lady who took our picture.

Yay for marriage.
