Fancy Nancy

If you haven't seen the Fancy Nancy books, you are missing out. They are stupendous! ("that's a fancy word for great" - quote from the book) I love the books.

While we were walking in town one day I noticed an add saying there was to be a Fancy Nancy Tea Party at a local bookstore. I was so excited! I knew Breanna would love it....and I wanted to go!

This past Saturday, I bought Breanna her first Fancy Nancy book. We read it on Sunday. After all, she couldn't go to a Fancy Nancy tea party not knowing about Fancy Nancy. She really seemed to enjoy the book.  So Monday afternoon, she and I took off for the bookstore. Breanna was a fancied up in her pink ballerina costume, red glitter shoes, pink feather boa, completed with pink sunglasses and a pink bow in her pony tail. The girl likes LOVES pink, can't you tell?

When we got to the bookstore, there were tons of little girls girl, all complete in their "fancy" outfits. So cute. Cupcakes and lemonade were passed around before the reading. Jane O'Connor, author of the Fancy Nancy books, came and spoke for a few minutes and then read her newest book, "Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet". Mrs. O'Connor said that Fancy Nancy is really about herself when she was a little girl as she has no daughters and no granddaughters! She was also kind enough to sit and sign everyone's book(s). Breanna even with all her spunk can be kind of shy at times. After we sat down, she took off her sunglasses and boa. Why? Not because of her inital shyness, but because there were a few boys there! She said she was worried about what they might think of her. I told her she wasn't going to have any fun if she was worried about boys and that the only boy she should be worried about was her daddy. A few minutes later she put her boa back on and ended up having a good time.

(-um.....if this is a preview of her teen years, I have a feeling there will be lots of boys for Brent to scare. But I think some of it is due her life in Peru, before MorningStar and before adoption. She tends to attach herself to most males, whether she knows them or not. We've been trying to work on this issue.)

Now back at the tea party.....Mrs. O'Connor taught the kids that a banana works better than a book for teaching yourself to walk upright and she also taught them how to curtsey like a ballerina. Breanna really enjoyed trying to walk with a book on her head and was very delighted with herself when she walked successfully!

Afterward we walked (without bananas or books on our heads, although now that I think about it, that might have fun!) to YaYa's and had some yogurt.

What fancy afternoon!

Leaving for the tea party!

Yum! YaYa's!

On a side note, isn't this the cutest house/building? It's on the square. I think it really has the potential to some sort of cute tea house or something from a fairy tale, but (according to the sign on the door) right now it is masquerading as a law office. However, it looks quite vacant to me. If I had a million dollars.......

Hope your day is fancy!

We have a Fancy Nancy book here in our house that Hannah gave the girls for Christmas and they love it. What a great opportunity, and so glad you took her and taught her not to worry about those boys!!
