A Christmas Safari - Part 2

We stayed at a place called the Murchison Treehouse. Swiss Family Robinson - here we come!!

We also drove/FLEW down a GOAT PATH to one of the 4 corners of the earth to get to this "treehouse", in the blackest night, you've ever seen. Ok. Maybe it was the tinted windows, but other than the headlights on the van, it was really dark.

PSA Cottage and Treehouse, are not the same thing! HA! We did not get to play Swiss Family Robinson. Below is our little cottage, complete with solar heated shower. You better hope it sunny! At least the water pressure was awesome, plus the shower wall and floor were large rocks. Breanna and I loved it!

There was a treehouse, ONE and I don't know if anyone was actually allowed to stay in it.
It was an eco-friendly lodge and cottages.

Anyways. We woke up Christmas Day and opened 3 little presents and headed out for Safari Day 2!

First up, a silly baboon trying to find some breakfast from a trashcan that is "baboon" proofed! HA!

Once we got across the river, the first animal we saw was a hyena! Elizabeth noticed him first. By the time she realized what it was, we had driven past it! Our guide put on the brakes and put it in reverse! Hyena sightings are very rare to begin with, but especially during the day! This one was loping along near the road with a jackal traveling with him!

if you look close, you'll see the jackal laid down in the grass when we backed up. Then he took off!

WART HOG!
Yep, definitely should have taken time to crop these in for you!

"Everybody's got a water buffalo, yours is fast, but mine is slow...."

We were headed down to the water, when we happened upon an elephant who was just moseying down the lane. I wish her face had been towards us! There are a few pictures of her spraying herself with dirt. She was not in a hurry, but finally got up in the grass and we could pass.

Giraffes were everywhere!

The day safari was good! But I just enjoyed the rest of the day instead of taking photos, then it was time for our trip up the river to the falls! The river is the Nile River. The one that turned to blood for 3 days and the one where Moses was hidden in a basket in the bullrushes, until Pharaoh's daughter found him. So cool.

I also just took my phone for photos.

Here is our safari boat!

Since our boat ride was in the afternoon, all of the hippos were in the water! You can sort of see them or rather, their backs!

You can get off here and hike up to the top of the falls. But it is a LONG way!

The boat ride was my second favorite part of the safari! But I just love a boat ride! The falls were amazing! We were going to hike up the falls, but Brent wasn't feeling good and none of us slept well and we were exhausted. So we just rode back on the boat and met even met a lady with her 9-year-old son who lives near us in mBarara! What are the odds!

On the way back to the "treehouse", our guide told us that the top of the falls were not to be missed and that he would drive us up there the next morning as we left.

Have. Mercy. I am so glad he did. The top of the falls were incredible! We could have stayed there for hours! So here are some photos, in no particular order!

this is what comes up as the falls hit the bottom!

The sound of the waterfall was so intense. It was awesome.
After this, we headed back home. We are so thankful that we were able to go on a safari! What a gift!
