Winner, Winner

The week after we arrived here, Kellie and I went on a ladies retreat near Kampala. It was a good way to start adjusting here. During the retreat, they gave door prizes to all the ladies there. The prizes were give out before each speaker session. I think there were about 50 or so women at the retreat. There were all kinds of different prizes. When Kellie and I won our door prizes, we decided it was a God-thing, because we both won gift certificates to the same resort/spa in Kampala called Latitude Zero. I won massages and she won dinner at the sushi restaurant - which was really cool because a few times during the previous week, Kellie had been talking about how she loved sushi and would love to have some good sushi. God listens even to funny things like wanting to eat sushi.

We had to use the gift certificates before January 31 and since we needed some meat and a few other things from Kampala, our families made the trip for a few days.

It takes about 25 years to get to Kampala - the capital of Uganda.  Ok - so not really - it's about 5 or 6 hours, but your cross the Equator, which honestly, I still think is really cool. And the closer to Equator you are the hotter it gets and have mercy, it is HOT in Kampala. So by the time you have reached your hotel and you have sat in ridiculous traffic with not air conditioner in the car, you are basically melting into a puddle. It took us about 7 or 8 hours to get to Kampala this time because the traffic was so bad AND we took a wrong turn. You DO NOT want to make the mistake of taking a wrong turn in this city. You don't just turn around and go the other way. It is a big deal. At the same time the you just have to laugh at all the traffic and all the pot holes - or gorges, as I call them - in the road. There is nothing like it.

The place we stayed was an AirBnB. It was more of an apartment than a hotel. The kids swam. It was so nice! You'll notice that the photos are mainly just of the place we stayed because it was so nice and the food.

The next morning, we ate breakfast at a place called Holy Crepe. It was fantastic!

We ran some errands, picked up supper for the kids. Crode stayed the kids and we zipped off to dinner about 3:30.

So Latitude Zero - hands down one of the nicest places I have ever been in my life - including places the US. It's worth the hot, eight hour trip just to come here. It's expensive, but with our gift certificates, it worked out just fine!

at night, because I forgot to get a photo during the day of the front entrance

So Brent, Michael, Kellie, and I decided we would all get massages and then go to dinner. Kellie and I got a "relaxing" massage, while Brent and Michael opted for the "deep tissue" massage. The best part is that Kellie and I each had our own rooms, while Brent and Michael shared the couples massage room! It was hilarious!!! Afterwards, we got a little dressed up and headed up to the top to the Sushi restaurant. I am not a sushi person. Brent and Breanna love it; they usually get cooked Sushi at Ninja or wherever they might be. I have tried it and just can't do it. But that night, I ate sushi. Not only was it sushi, it was RAW sushi! What the what?!?!? Ya'll. I actually enjoyed some of it and would eat it again and I didn't die! HA! Kellie was in heaven with the sushi.

So back to the restaurant, they put us outside on the porch with the most fantastic view of the city. We relaxed on comfy couches with pillows  (instead of chairs) that had 3 small tables in front of them where they placed our drinks and dinner. The candles were lit and everything here is served with great care and respect. They take their time, nothing is in a hurry.  They brought an appetizer, the main courses, and dessert. Then we ordered tea, well some had coffee. We were seated outside and as the sun got lower, the air got cooler. Which was a nice change from the heat, but it was actually cold to sit outside, so their custom is to bring you nice, thick blankets to cover up in as we sipped tea and ate dessert. What in the world - dear USA - take some notes, we all need this in our lives!

We were so thankful to have been given those gift certificates!

As we left the next day, we went to a store called Verity. They only have American brands!! YAY!
We picked up our things and the meat, then stopped at a great coffee shop, where we bought the girls chocolate croissants that truly give the ones from Starbucks a run for their money, and then hit the road back home!

The kids were waiting outside the meat shop and we played a game of making different faces. hahaha!

It was definitely a trip to remember! I am sure it seems like we are gallivanting all over the country. Except for the Christmas, the trips are usually just 2 nights and this one was unexpected! school is not in session here and does not begin until February. We have a few ministries we are hoping to get more involved with once all this moving and the holidays are finished.

Thanks for following the posts! I love all your comments! It makes me feel like you are all with us here!
