On Moving: Part 1

Let's face it. It was all God's idea in the first place. Here's the part you don't know: A few months ago Brent and I had a big arguement, one of those nobody's talking and nobody's sleeping cause you're so mad arguments. Well I actually got to sleep, Brent was the one who stayed up all night praying. It all ended with God impressing on Brent's heart that maybe everything he was asking would involve a move. That was about 4 am, five hours later at work, Brent received a phone call from the great Dr. Stutz, a seminary professor, who told Brent he had just recommened Brent for a job at church. Really. Let me tell you when God decides He wants to do something - it happens, lightning fast. So deep in the cobweb part of our hearts, we knew we were moving even before Brent went for the first meeting. But you don't count your chickens before they hatch, so we kept quiet for awhile.

Here's the timeline:
Brent had a meeting. Then I went to a meeting with Brent - that's when we had lunch with the staff and met the personnel committee. About 2 weeks later we went back with the kids and had a fellowship and a question/answer session with the youth and parents, then Brent spoke for about 5 minutes in front of the church that Sunday morning. We came home and resigned while we waited for the church's decision - that was a long week (even though we knew in our hearts). Once that week was over, we offically let the cat out of the bag.

Moving is good. It's time, in a sense. Even though there is already enough change going on here to last everybody a lifetime, the change will be good. Yes, the kids will regress. It's already started. Breanna has resorted to asking how long it takes to get anywhere and when will we be there. That is somethine she did after we arrived home and something she quit doing about the middle/end of August. Benjamin has pulled out his Alex Campos CD (all Christian Spanish) something he hasn't listened too since school began. He's also pulled out the silent treatment again when he's angry.

On the plus side of progress: Bre and Ben both announced they were full this week and did not eat anymore. This is probably wierd to some of you, but gorging (or hoarding/hiding food) is a big deal for adopted kiddos. When your mind is programmed to eat as much as you can when you get food, just in case there isn't more later - it's hard to change that mindset. Both Ben and Bre ate appropriate amounts at some meals this week and when offered more declined or just announced "I'm full".  Being able to tell when their stomach is full is progress!
For Elizabeth, she has progressed in stranger hesitation. This also may seem wierd, but for 3 kids who have no fear when it comes to people, this is good. It means she's attaching.

Let's just hope the move doesn't send these steps reeling backwards!
