What's in a Name?

In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare wrote "What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;"

While in Peru, we talked to the kids about changing their names. Hugo and Olenka wanted to keep their first names and have new middle names. Hugo chose Brent to be his middle name. Brent has always joked with our friends about naming their children after him by calling them Brenton. Se we chose Hugo Brenton Colee.

We gave Olenka two name choices, she chose Breanna. We liked it because it is a mixture of our names.
Olenka Breanna Colee.

Cesia didn't really have a say in the matter. We did ask Olenka and Hugo if they liked her name. We changed her name completely. Isabelle. Everything we have seen on names says that Isebelle is the Spanish verison of Elizabeth. It seemed appropriate her mother's middle name is Elizabeth and Marianne's middle name is Elizabeth. Isabelle Kate Colee. I think I might call her Izzy Kate. What do you think? I love the name Kate.

Fast forward to the third week of June. Hugo and Brent are outside on the porch talking and out of nowhere Hugo annouces that he does not want to be called Hugo anymore. Olenka, who is always close by and does not want to be left out, also says she does not want to be called Olenka anymore. We were expecting company, so it was not the time to have deep heart to heart talk about names. Later that night we talked about names a bit. They chose some. Hugo likes the name Benjamin. He really liked Benji, but we vetoed it. Olenka like Aurora. Um, no. So she now likes the name Jasmin. I'm just glad she didn't say Cinderella! ha!

So we are just thinking about it for awhile. I don't know if we will really change them. I wonder if it reminds them of Peru and they miss it or if it makes them think of being adopted and they feel singled out. We will see.

But for now we are off to swim with the family and then my nephew Grayson is being baptized so we will be there tonight! Have a great weekend!
