Day 10 - Something sour, sweet, and just right
I think I have a misconception of what joy is and what it isn't.
I'm not sure what it isn't...yet anyway.
My misconception with joy is that I think it only comes on the happy days. The days that are happy all day. I can't seem to get it through my mind that you can find joy on the days that aren't so happy.
This to me proves that this is appropriately named the Joy DARE.
Did you ever play truth or dare as a little kid? What fun game, until it was your turn. Then all of a sudden you felt like you ate for lunch that day turned into rocks. You were't sure which would be worse - the truth or the dare? And you really hoped that THAT girl would be the one to ask you.
I'm pretty sure that game wears off as you enter "pre-teen" phase.
A daily Joy Dare quest. I dare you to find joy in this day. This day. Not just the days that you feel like it. Not only the days where the sun shines and birds sing, but this day. The rainy, sloppy days. The days when all you can do only put one foot in front of the other. THIS DAY.
That's all we are promised anyways, right? We can't back up and we don't get tomorrow's paper today (that would be from Early Edition, for those of you who watched TV in the 90's).
"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."
My misconception is also why today's dare was kind of hard for me. Something sour, something sweet, something just right. Something sour? Who wants to be joyful about something sour? Aren't joys supposed to be something happy? Plus I didn't even eat Sour Patch Kids today! Well the gum Elizabeth gave me wasn't very good, but I don't think that counts.
So I used the "cheat sheet". One Thousand Gifts has a facebook page where you can post your 3 gifts. Sometimes I look at that post just to see what everyone else put.
Here were some of the answers for the sour gift from others:
1. lemonade
2. me
3. confrontation
4. grapes
5. dark times in our lives
6. a sassy 13-year-old daughter
7. sinus troubles
8. the amount of work left to do
9. hard, but true words from a friend
Wow! What a list! I guess anything can be "sour" depending on your point of view and your life circumstances.
So this is my sour gift - an email from a friend. I cannot elaborate on the email right now. I am not sure how to tell you what I want to say at this time. I will say that the email contains a topic on an organization that she works with and not harsh words or anything ill-fated between me or her. Sorry, I do not like to be so vague, but when I figure out how to post it on a blog in a clear manner, I will.
My sweet gift - Dessert at Newks with a great friend! The dessert really was sweet, but the time with Sharon was even sweeter!
My just right gift - the ending of this day.
Hope your day ended well!
