Day 26 - Before Dawn, At Noon, After Dark
Before dawn. I may have laughed when I read that earlier today. She does not know me!
I am not and probably never will be one of them. You know those people who get up at 5:00 or 4:30 in the morning and like it. Ok. Maybe not all of them like it. But I am certainly not the mom who takes her kids to school with my hair and make up finished. In fact, my kids should dance around the stars if I actually cook breakfast. Here, breakfast consists of muffins, go-gurts, pop tarts, and fruit - whatever is transportable along with water or the occasional hot chocolate. It's the breakfast of champions, people!
When they give a look of disdain and the edge of Bre's lip curls up ever so slightly as if working on her Elvis impersonation, I know they will heading straight for the lunchroom as soon as they hit school pavement.
It's true I let "those people" who get up before dawn to prep school breakfast, take care of my kids. They fill the empty void in their tummies with biscuits, sausage, and milk. Probably chocolate.
That's when I know I have reached the ultimate American dream:
let somebody else to it!
HA!
Today before dawn, Elizabeth came to our room, as she usually does requesting something to drink. This morning however, she also wanted something to eat. Crazy kid. Thankfully, the drink and her sleepiness gave way before she could really insist on something to eat.
So my gift, before dawn, was sleep.
After dawn, proved to be very busy. Getting cars at Enterprise for a revival team at our church was first on the agenda and then a birthday party for Breanna's friend while Brent worked till 12:00.
Such a fun little party. It was held at the local ceramic painting store, complete with parrot, that doesn't talk. When do parrots start to talk? They said it would be a few years. Years? I thought they just you know...talked.
My gift, at noon, was just our afternoon.
Brent and I both wanted to get outta dodge. We took a quick trip to the furniture store and on the way back we found a fun animal park to play in for a few hours. They had a petting zoo with feed the animal signs. Among the normal petting zoo animals, there were giraffes, zebras, buffalo, a camel, a yak, and even a water buffalo who was at the ripe old age of 31.
I will give you 3 guesses as to which animal was Breanna's favorite
1.

3.
The goats. The goats were where she shined. She panicked at the giraffes. She wasn't about to touch the cute calves and about died when we tried to get her to feed the donkey.
But when goats turn came, Breanna turned into little mother hen. Feeding, petting, and scolding the goats she thought had had enough food or were breaking in line.
The donkey was Elizabeth's favorite. She knew it from the time we left the giraffes. Apparently he was hungry and she had plenty of food that he was waiting on her to bring him.
Ben's favorite were the buffalo and the germ-x. Apparently he does not enjoy animal slobber.
(sorry no buffalo pictures)
I really loved the giraffes. The male was the best. He had been at the park for 18 years. He came straight from the plains of Africa. After his trip across the Atlantic, he spent 33 days in quarantine in Miami and then came to park. Standing 23 feet tall, he carried himself with great dignity. His skin beautiful; soft, deep, and dark.
Just between us, knowing how hard kids have it when being transplanted from another country, I secretly felt sorry him. I don't think I would like being moved off the beautiful African plain where you have all kinds of freedom to roam and downsized to a 200 acre ranch where most of your time is spent in muddy acre square. I'm sure he's worked through it, after all he's got 6 kids. Granted having the threat of being a lion's lunch removed would be a huge plus!
Too much drama for a giraffe? Yeah, I thought so too!
Moving on!
My gift, after dark, was jewelry.
I ordered some jewelry on Tuesday from World Crafts. A bracelet and leaf earrings. They came today in the mail, that we picked up after dark. I was pretty excited. Click on each word above to see what I ordered.
So that, as my boss from seminary would say, was the play by play of our day. Hope you enjoyed it!
